Best Movie Battle Scenes Ever?
What are your favourite battle scenes in the films you've seen?

The Last Samurai - yes I'd forgotten the scene when the warriors gallop towards you in slo-mo though the forest and out of the mist. Astonishing sequence.
Why discount Golden Compass just because it's recent?
It's still undeniably good!
By "battle" I really meant encounters between armies, not just small-scale set-tos.
It's just occured to me that the climactic battle in "Spartacus" (the one with the rolling flaming logs) could be a candidate too.

One good thing about that film was that the battle startegies were made clear, before all the disembowelling etc., began.
I liked the bit in the Narnia battle when theree was a distant, silent, slo-mo shot of the battlefeeld, whichh abruptly cut to a loud close-up of the armies classhing. I nearly spilt my Pepsi.
Personally I didn't like "300" at all. A shouty, wildly inaccurate film whose slow-fast depiction of the slaughter seemed too arty-farty for its own good. But I accept I'm with the minority on this one!
As for "Gladiator", I really meant the stunning battle sequence in the German forests at the beginning of the film.
And theree's always "Independence Day"!
